What a brilliantly written story. I am humbled to have been brought into her story of hidden secrets and redeeming, relentless love from a God who wants us even though we don't have it all together. I once read a book written by a woman telling her story about an eating disorder. The focus was heavy on the twisted satisfaction of control and unrealistic expectations and much too light on the tough journey of recovery and the path to freedom from addiction. Sadly, I found myself thrown deeper into the snares of my own disorder comparing my level of discipline to hers. I finished the book feeling defeated and hopeless. Borden, in contrast, shares a much more complete and honest story. Her darkest secrets, hard truths, honest struggles, and ugliest sins are beautifully woven alongside surrender, pure love, freedom, grace, forgiveness and redemption. But she's quick to say it's not over either; that life is a journey and some seasons are long, cold, and desolate while others are filled with life, light and joy. But it all contributes to who we are and fortifies our roots to live a perennial life. I finished Tammy's book this morning, and I feel encouraged, hopeful, and brave...even though I have a long way to go myself. Well done, Tammy. Thank you for being brave.Product details

A Perennial Life Finding purpose in every season Tammy A Borden 9780692676684 Books Reviews
My soul was touched. Tammy truly has a gift for drawing lessons from her life experiences and expressing them in a way that anyone can relate to and learn from. Her clever analogies left me pondering my own hidden sin and revealed to me yet another side of God's amazing love.
When I finished the book I knew I wanted to read it again to capture more of the author's faith through a difficult time? The book tugged heavily at my heart because of the authors lonely and isolated adolescent years. How her life evolved to the vibrant, creative, multitalented, humorous person she is today is truly a testament to her faith and those that love her.
I truly enjoyed this book! It was easy to read and I found myself relating to so many thoughts. It was filled with hope. As I further my relationship with God, I found this book to be reassuring and comforting. I love the analogy that when we are in the darkest moments of winter, we don't think spring will come. But it can and it does! "Sometimes we need to jump in and trust the breath of God to carry us from there." Thank you Tammy!
Tammy has written an extraordinary story of a life full of trials and tribulations that are easy for many of us to identify with and woven it with tales of a strong yet struggling faith. I found myself feeling sad as I watched the end of the book grow near and wanting to know more! This was a quick, easy-flowing, but still thought provoking, and possibly Iife changing book.
I will admit I got this book to read because I love, and was blessed to work with Tammy over 10 years ago. But as I read the book in one sitting, I was amazed how much it challenged me in my own personal walk with God. I suspect it not seen as a "manly" book on the surface, however the same struggles Tammy shares about manifests themselves in each of our lives with many different faces. The fact that Tammy is so transparent and willing to allow her pain to minister to others only speaks more of her incredible pure and loving spirit. Thanks for sharing your heart, and stretching mine.
Tammy Borden has taken a big leap to share her heart and heartaches in this personal diary. Having grown up in an alcoholic home followed by 23 years in the spiritual abuse of religious legalism, I absorbed Tammys words deep into my heart. Yes there is life after life with Christ at our side. Thank you Tammy for being vulnerable and raw!
This book is a brave undertaking, for it is Tammy's memoir of her experience as an anorexic/bulimic and challenging journey toward a more perfect love of God. I think it is a rare individual who doesn't carry over some level of dysfunction from their childhood into their adult life, which is why I think everyone can not only find something to relate to as they read this story, but can also learn something from Tammy's book to help ease their sadness. The chapter in which she talks about her father could, in and of itself be turned into a short story. Her narrative flows well and the honesty and integrity with which she tells her story is inspiring and compelling.
